Echoing Green Introduces the International Class of 2013 Fellows Supported by Newman’s Own Foundation
June 18, 2013
New York, NY – Echoing Green announced this year’s class of Fellows, who are early-stage social entrepreneurs, including sixteen working beyond the United States to help solve some of the world’s most challenging problems. Representing work across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, these Fellows are supported by Newman’s Own Foundation through a partnership with Echoing Green.
The Fellows will receive seed funding and technical assistance over two years to help them launch their organizations and build capacity to succeed. They are chosen from nearly three thousand applicants, and they are part of Echoing Green’s 2013 class of thirty-seven Fellows. A complete list of the 2013 Echoing Green Fellows is online at http://echoinggreen.org/2013-Fellows.
Echoing Green has a world-renowned Fellowship program and supports some of the most successful, innovative social change organizations and social entrepreneurs around the world. Teaming up with Newman’s Own Foundation is a natural match since Newman’s Own is a social enterprise pioneer and shares the desire to inspire change by nourishing the common good. The late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman, founded the food company in 1982 and gave all the profits to charity to help make a difference in the world. Today the legacy continues, and Newman’s Own Foundation supports charitable organizations with 100% of the profits from Newman’s Own products.
“The 2013 Fellowship classes are the outcome of the twenty-five years of growth in the social entrepreneurship sector since the birth of Echoing Green,” said Cheryl L. Dorsey, president of Echoing Green and 1992 Fellow. “On our anniversary year, this catalyzing partnership with Newman’s Own Foundation builds upon the two organizations’ parallel commitments to support bold new solutions to our world’s greatest challenges.”
“We are pleased to work with Echoing Green and support these young social entrepreneurs who are taking on big challenges around the world,” said Robert H. Forrester, CEO and President of Newman’s Own Foundation. “Their innovative ideas and energy will help fuel positive change, and hopefully inspire others.”
The work of these sixteen new Echoing Green Fellows represents diverse geography and issues: from El Salvador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, addressing refugee youth, information transparency, and life-improving technologies in developing countries. Their innovative projects will help make a difference for children, families and communities in many parts of the world.
